This summer the Institut français d'Ecosse and Theatre Sans Accents are bringing you drama and language summer mini camps for S1+ students.

S1 + : Franglish?! Inspired by the Franco-English comedian Paul Taylor, create your own scenes and film documentaries to better understand French people and their culture! The perfect way to celebrate Bastille day!

Healthy snacks provided, but students must bring their own packed lunch.

Groupe de lecture: Les racines du ciel

Every last Thursday of the month, the group meets to discuss a book selected in advance (from classical to contemporary French literature) and discover the other members’ views on them. The discussion is held in French.

In June, the group will be discussing Les racines du ciel (Gallimard, collection Folio) by Romain Gary. The book was the recipient of the prix Goncourt in 1956.

Conference: Bibracte, A Protohistoric Western European City

Situated in what is today the French region of Burgundy, Bibracte was a Gaulish oppidum or fortified city of the late Iron Age. It is one of the earliest protohistoric cities in Wester Europe.

On the occasion of a visiting delegation from l'Académie du Morvan and in collaboration with the EPCC Bibracte, the museum that manages the eponymous archeological site, the Institut français d'Ecosse welcomes Jean-Loup Flouest to give a talk about this grand site de France. A protohistorian and scholar of the Iron Age, Flouest will unearth the significance of this European heritage site.

Reading: Claire Ubac

Although she has written books for readers of all ages, Claire Ubac is best known as a children’s author, having written more than 50 titles, inlcuding Le fruit du dragon, the L'histoire impossible series, and her wildly popular Lily Chanitlly series.

The Institut français d'Ecosse is proud to host Ubac in Edinburgh and has invited her to give a reading at the Sir Patrick Geddes Library at our home on the Royal Mile. In addition to the reading, she will talk about her books and her career as a writer.
