Atelier littérature - In Ludere

_“in ludere” signifie l'illusion, le tour de passe-passe soit entrer dans le jeu.

L'objectif du cours est de communiquer en français (compétences linguistiques niveau C1+/C2) sur quelques romans contemporains publiés en France (notamment lors de la Rentrée littéraire du mois de septembre).

Pour la première séance de cette année, nous aborderons le livre d'Erri de Luca, “La tour de l'oie” (Gallimard, 2019).

Un soir d'orage, un homme – qui ressemble beaucoup à l'auteur – est assis à une table, chez lui. Éclairé par le feu de la cheminée, il est en train de lire un livre pour enfants, Pinocchio. Dans la pénombre, une présence évanescente apparaît à ses côtés, qui évoque le profil du fils qu'il n'a jamais eu. L'homme imagine lui raconter sa vie : Naples, la nostalgie de la famille, la nécessité de partir, l'engagement politique. À travers cette voix paternelle, ce fils spectral assume progressivement une consistance corporelle. La confession devient confrontation, la curiosité se transforme en introspection, le monologue évolue en dialogue, au cours duquel un père et un fils se livrent sans merci.

Dixieland on West Parliament Square

Thanks to the close relationship that the Institut français d'Ecosse and the Consulate General of France have been able to develop with the Musique de l'Artillerie, we will be hosting a series of special events in August.

Dixieland Ensemble
In contrast to their traditional military formations, the Musique de l'Artillerie will fill West Parliament Square with the brassy hot rhythms of traditional New Orleans jazz. The group’s Dixieland Ensemble harks back to the genre’s origins and early 20th-century marching bands with the sounds of King Oliver, Louis Armstrong, and John Philip Sousa.

About the Musique de l'Artillerie
The Musique de l'Artillerie is the keeper of a long and storied military musique tradition that dates as far back as 1757, when the Duc de Zweibrücken hired civilian musicians to join the ranks of the regiment that was derived from his name, the Royal Deux Ponts. Known by many names during its 260-year history, it took up its current name of Musique de l'Artillerie in 2016. Though based in Lyon, the group plays a key role in the French Army’s public relations strategy and travels the world for official ceremonies and international festivals. Its repertoire is broad and in addition to playing in large formations, the group also plays as a Dixieland ensemble or in chamber settings as a brass quintet, woodwind quintet, or saxophone quartet. It is with this treasured history in mind that the Institut français d'Ecosse and the Consulate General of France are so proud to have facilitated conversations between The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and the Musique de l'Artillerie.

About the Tattoo
The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is a spectacular like no other, all set against the iconic backdrop of Edinburgh Castle. A celebration of Scottish and military traditions perfectly accompanied by folkloric acts from across the world. Famous for its Massed Pipes and Drums and highland dance, the Tattoo is a show not to be missed.

Afternoon Concert with the Musique de l'Artillerie

Thanks to the close relationship that the Institut français d'Ecosse and the Consulate General of France have been able to develop with the Musique de l'Artillerie, we will be hosting a series of special events in August.

Part I: Clarinet Quartet
Joins us on a whirlwind world tour! Latin America with Piazzola, then off to the north with Gershwin and Joplin. Take a great leap eastward with traditional Russian tunes. Back in Europe, the Musique de l'Artillerie delves into the clarinet’s origins with the illustrious Mozart, followed by Alexis Ciesla, a Klemzer-inspired composer from Lyon, the ensemble’s home turf.

Part II: Brass Quintet
Settle in for some cool fun, as the Musique de l'Artillerie’s brass quintet serves up a programme of variety and jazz. The toe-tapping entertainment is bound to have you marching out of the Institut with a smile on your face and a song in your heart.

Aubade
The Musique de l'Artillerie will perform a static formation, demonstrating their military music prowess in the Fringe Street Events performance area on West Parliament Square and giving a taste of what they’ve prepared for the Tattoo’s night performances.
