Harpsichord en fête! Festival - DANCE WORKSHOP

The Institut français d'Ecosse proudly announces the second edition of its Harpsichord en fête festival in partnership with St. Cecilia’s Hall Concert Room and Music Museum, home of the University of Edinburgh’s internationally renowned collection of musical instruments. Our first ever baroque bal costumé will take place within the festival and the workshop aims to train dancers beforehand. Become a member and be the first informed of our events. If you are not yet a member of the Institut français d'Ecosse, we invite you to join. Already a member? Book your place early!

The baroque ball “Cousins at Court, Dance & Music for Louis XIV & Charles II” led by Talitha MacKenzie with Tiffany Vong at the harpsichord will make you dream in pastel colours!

Come and learn the steps and dances that will be performed during the Bal Baroque on Monday 23rd March 2020.

Talitha MacKenzie at Renaissance Masque in Durham, 2016

About Talitha MacKenzie Talitha MacKenzie was introduced to Renaissance Dance by Ingrid Brainard and Baroque Dance by Wendy Hilton at the American Dance Festival, in 1973. As a student at the New England Conservatory of Music (Boston), she performed with Collegium Terpsichore, directed by acclaimed dance reconstructionist Julia Sutton.

MacKenzie currently lectures in Historical Dance & Music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (Glasgow) and recently founded the group Rossignol, members of which have performed with her at Holyrood Palace and Stirling Castle. Since 2017, she has organised a series of Bicentennial Celebrations featuring the work of renowned Dance Band leader Nathaniel Gow & Edinburgh Dancing Master Barclay Dun, first at the Edinburgh Assembly Rooms and now at the Institut Français d'Écosse, where she teaches regular Quadrille classes (dances for four couples in a square).
