Directed by Bertrand Tavernier, the 2010 film is inspired by the novel of the same name by iconic seventeenth-century French woman writer, Mme de La Fayette.
The screening is part of a series of events led by Dr Séverine Genieys-Kirk at the University of Edinburgh called ‘Recovering Women’s Past’ which examines the lives and literature of female writers from the early modern period (16th to 18th centuries).
It is showing in collaboration with The French Institute (Institut Français d'Ecosse), with image courtesy of StudioCanal.
