Concert: The Consort of Voices present "Auld Alliance"

As a collaboration between the Institut français d'Ecosse and The Consort of Voices, the concert is entitled ‘Auld Alliance’, celebrating the ancient friendly ties between Scotland and France. The programme will contain a mixture of French and Scottish music, from pieces by Debussy and Fauré to arrangements of traditional Scots songs; we hope you will enjoy it! The Consort of Voices will be donating all of their proceeds (net of expenses) to the Marie Curie Hospice at Fairmilehead, Edinburgh.

About The Consort of Voices
Based in Edinburgh, The Consort of Voices specialises in performances of a cappella music and small-scale choral repertoire from the 15th century to the present day; it is one of the most versatile groups of its kind. The Consort performs regularly throughout Scotland, and made its English debut at the Ryedale Festival in Yorkshire in 1996. The Consort has been closely associated for many years with the music of John Bevan Baker, and participated in the first performances of his chamber opera The Seer. A recording of Bevan Baker’s music featuring the Consort and members of the Hebrides Ensemble, under the direction of William Conway, was released in autumn 2006.

In 2009, the group took part in BBC Radio Scotland’s Remembrance Day service, broadcast from Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, and also accompanied Bryn Terfel in the Glasgow performance of his Bad Boys tour, promoted by Raymond Gubbay Ltd. Projects in 2010 included semi-staged performances of Edinburgh composer Julian Wagstaff’s musical John Paul Jones with members of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra at the Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh.

Since 2009, the group have become a regular fixture at the Edinburgh Fringe each August, and have built a reputation for their eclectic themed programmes. In 2016, the Consort participated in the Edinburgh International Festival’s Songlines project.

In Lothian the Marie Curie Hospice, Edinburgh, at Fairmilehead offers specialist care and support, in a friendly, welcoming environment and their Marie Curie Nurses visit terminally ill people at home. Nurses in Lothian provided 4,237 visits to terminally ill people last year including 280 supported through the fast track discharge service helping people get home from hospital.
