To offer advanced French speakers and students a richer learning experience with the film 21 nuits avec Pattie, Institut français teacher Valerie Laplanche has collaborated with our guest Luc Lavacherie (Le Gallia Théâtre Cinéma, Saintes) to deliver this language workshop.
Workshop format
After a brief presentation on the film’s directors, the frères Larrieu, the workshop will focus on language, notably the register of language chosen by the characters in the film, and the weight and aims of these linguistic choices. The main idea is to discuss the different paths you can take to open and orient your own approaches to choosing your register and tone in French.
Note on content
As both a warning on the film’s content and a measure of the level of French required for this workshop, you should read and understand the following message from Luc Lavacherie:
« Je rappelle, mais vous devez le savoir, que si le film est assez tendre et drôle, nullement violent et ne comportant aucune scène choquante, on y entend cependant des dialogues très crus et disons grivois ; la question du désir, pris dans son acception la plus large, y étant centrale. Le film s'adresse donc à un public adulte mais, je le répète, sur un ton qui n'a rien de provocateur ou de violent, le film s'inscrivant plutôt dans le registre du conte. »
