Music Day Concerts: Fête de la Musique

Since the 80s, every 21st of June, the crowds flow into the streets for a feast for ears. The Fête de la Musique aka Music Day emerged from France and is now celebrated worldwide. All Music Day events are FREE, yet reservations strongly recommended. Become a member and be the first informed of our events. If you are not yet a member of the Institut français d'Ecosse, we invite you to join. Already a member? Book your place early!

About The Fête de la Musique
Created in 1982 the Fête de la musique is now an established tradition in France (and many other places around Europe and the Francophone world) taking place on the 21st of June. On that very special day, musicians of diverse genres come out onto the streets, the squares, and the cafés to perform for free.

  • Elír Trio
ELÍR was formed in Glasgow’s vibrant and eclectic music scene. Featuring Niamh MacKaveney from Scotland (vocals & fiddle), David Lombardi from Italy (fiddle) and Jean Damei from France (guitar), the trio have taken influences from each country and merged it with a backbone in different musical traditions to produce a unique sound. For more information about the trio, visit the Official Website of Elír Trio.
  • cosamentale
cosamentale began in 2015 as a solo project by the French artist Fabien Pages, before growing into a duo involving Dawn Ng, a PhD student in French and Francophone literature at the Université de Paris VIII, who has also given us a talk about her research at an interdisciplinary seminar, “Migrations, migrations des personnes, migrations des idées, migrations des images” back in November 2015. The duo has performed in gigs in Paris, in Nice and in Geneva ever since. Their performances consist in a unique audio-visual experience with screen projection. For more information, visit cosamentale Official Website.
